Menhir Photonics is a dynamic Swiss laser manufacturer offering laser solutions of unprecedented robustness and reliability to customers around the globe. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, our team has strong expertise in the development and production of ultrafast lasers for the markets of aerospace, telecom, and metrology. For our ambitious business scale-up we are looking for an Automation Engineer.
Your profile
Job Description
Your primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Development and qualification of newly automated assembly solutions for miniature laser systems
    • Development of automation processes on state of the art photonics assembly machines according to industry standards
    • Working in close cooperation with assembly machine manufacturers and internal R&D and manufacturing departments
    • Development of precise and repeatable active alignment routines for optical laser components
    • Development of robust and repeatable fixation routines for optical laser components
    • Development of applications for storing critical data to a database
    • Building of prototypes and completion of validation testing
    • Transfer of automatic assembly stations and processes to manufacturing
  • Development of automated test stations (e.g. for factory acceptance test and laser burn-in)
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting of automation robots in close cooperation with other engineering teams and manufacturing
  • Management of projects and other related technical activities$

Experience & Education
Your background:
  • MSc in engineering, physics, process or system engineering
  • 2-5 years of experience in designing processes with common automatic assembly machines, preferred for opto-mechanical assemblies 
  • Programming expertise (mainly Python) is required
  • Proficiency in designing reliable industry processes is required
  • Knowledge and previous experience with opto-mechanic and optic integration, alignment, fixation and packaging is beneficial
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to optical components and systems (e.g. familiarity with Telcordia standards) is beneficial
  • Knowledge in optical metrology and mechanical design is beneficial

Conditions
  • The position is 80% to 100% (34 to 42 hours/week)
  • The workplace is located at our headquarters near Zurich, Switzerland in Dübendorf
  • The position is primarily based onsite. However, the role requires a willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed. 
  • The preferred starting date is as soon as possible (June 2025)
